BRANCH IN VOLZHSKY
The branch of the National Research University "MPEI" in the city of Volzhsky was established in 1995. It serves as a training hub for professionals in the Southern Federal District.

The instructional process at the MPEI branch in the city of Volzhsky is based on a modular-cycle system of education.
The teaching process is carried out by the faculty (academic teaching staff), which includes experienced teachers and young specialists from among the university’s graduates. Many teachers hold honorary state titles and awards of regional significance.

For nonresident (out-of-town) and international students, a comfortable student campus with modern and safe living conditions has been created at the MPEI branch in Volzhsky.
More than 15 laboratories operate at the university, where students conduct experiments and carry out research. The following are active: the Research Laboratory of Digital Technologies, the Laboratory of Chemical Technologies, the Electrotechnical Laboratory, a Design Bureau, and a Student Design Bureau.
After receiving a diploma from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, graduates of the branch successfully build their careers at enterprises of the fuel-and-energy complex and industry both in the Volgograd Region and in other regions of the country. The MPEI branch cooperates with numerous partner energy enterprises across the country.
The National Research University “MPEI” branch in Volzhsky is a holder of a participant certificate of NOKO, and in 2023 it was awarded the level “Pursuit of Excellence in Russia” based on the assessment of the EFQM Excellence Model.

The branch provides high-quality training of highly qualified specialist technicians for the energy industry and also participates in ensuring the high-technology development of Russia.
On the basis of the power engineering college, courses are held on an ongoing basis for training users of personal computers (PC), as well as preparatory courses for admission to secondary vocational educational institutions. The Konakovo Power Engineering College provides continuing education services: preparatory courses for secondary specialized institutions, advanced training courses, and professional training.

The branch provides training of specialists for the energy industry of the Republic of Tajikistan. Students who successfully complete the bachelor’s degree at the MPEI branch have the opportunity to continue their studies in a master’s program at the main university in Moscow.
A Preparatory Department operates on the basis of the branch. At the National Research University “MPEI,” a complete set of teaching-and-methodological materials has been developed for the branch’s Preparatory Department.
Within the framework of retraining specialists of the energy industry, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the authorities of the Republic of Tajikistan, it is possible to implement educational programs in all modern areas of the development of information technologies and the technological process, and to organize off-site seminars and trainings.

Do international students receive dormitory accommodation?
All international students arriving to study at NRU “MPEI” are provided with accommodation in one of the university campus dormitories.
How does the move-in procedure work?
Before arriving in Russia, students receive a move-in instruction by email. It includes the dormitory address and detailed steps to complete before check-in.
What documents need to be prepared?
In addition to personal identification documents, students must have medical certificates: a valid chest X-ray (fluorography), proof of measles vaccination, and confirmation of absence of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and all types of hepatitis.
How is room assignment managed?
Room assignment for international students is carried out upon arrival by the Student Dormitory Department. Several factors are considered: availability of rooms, the nationality of current residents, religion, family ties, and field of study (to house students from the same institute or academic program together). The department does its best to consider students’ preferences.
How many people live in one room?
University dormitories offer rooms for two or three people.
What are the living conditions? Is it allowed to cook in the dormitory?
All dormitories are equipped with shared kitchens and bathrooms.
Cooking is allowed only in the kitchen. The use of microwave ovens, electric kettles, and other electrical appliances is prohibited inside the rooms.
How much does dormitory accommodation at NRU “MPEI” cost?
Accommodation cost depends on the assigned room and type of dormitory.
The approximate monthly fee is up to 3,000 rubles.
How far is the dormitory from the university?

At NRU “MPEI”, we offer various opportunities for additional Russian language instruction outside of class time for international students. The MPEI International Council also actively supports international students in their adaptation, especially during the early stages of study.
Will I be assigned a thesis advisor after admission?
A thesis advisor for the final project is assigned during the 7th or 8th semester of the bachelor’s program. Therefore, students will begin by studying their academic programs after arrival.
Can I leave the Russian Federation during winter and summer holidays?
If the exam session is successfully completed, students may return home for the holidays. They must return to Russia before the start of the new semester. Upon return, they must renew their registration (submit documents to the migration office within three days of return).
University academic calendars provide for the following student holidays:
Winter: January 25 – February 5
Summer: June 25 – August 25

What is an invitation and why is it needed?
An invitation is a document required for obtaining a student visa and entering the territory of Russia. The university prepares the necessary set of documents, and the invitation is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Processing time is from 30 working days.
What is the tuition fee? When should tuition be paid? Can it be paid after receiving the invitation? What is the refund policy?
Tuition must be paid by September 15.

The tuition fee for the Preparatory Department is 180,000 rubles per year.
Can international students live in a dormitory? What is the cost of accommodation?
All international students are guaranteed accommodation in a student dormitory.
The cost of living in a dormitory ranges from 1,800 to 9,500 rubles per month, depending on the type of dormitory and the form of study.
What is taught in the Preparatory Department? Is it mandatory for international students? Can I apply for a bachelor’s or master’s program without attending the Preparatory Department?
The Preparatory Department for international students provides training for pursuing academic programs in Russian.
Teaching is conducted in Russian in small groups of up to 10 students.
Students preparing for the first year of a bachelor’s degree study not only Russian, but also mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering graphics, and chemistry.
For those entering master’s or postgraduate programs, the curriculum includes Russian as a means of communication and specialized terminology.
It is possible to enter NRU “MPEI” bachelor’s or master’s programs without attending the Preparatory Department if the applicant has a certificate of completion of a preparatory course at another university or a certificate confirming proficiency in Russian (e.g., TORFL), and successfully passes the Russian language entrance exam.
Are there programs taught in English?
All academic programs at NRU “MPEI” are delivered in Russian.

The Preparatory Department for international students provides training for pursuing academic programs in Russian.
Teaching is conducted in Russian in small groups of up to 10 students.
Students preparing for the first year of a bachelor’s degree study not only Russian, but also mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering graphics, and chemistry.
For those entering master’s or postgraduate programs, the curriculum includes Russian as a means of communication and specialized terminology.
It is possible to enter NRU “MPEI” bachelor’s or master’s programs without attending the Preparatory Department if the applicant has a certificate of completion of a preparatory course at another university or a certificate confirming proficiency in Russian (e.g., TORFL), and successfully passes the Russian language entrance exam.
